Sardis Officer Charged With Enticing a Minor Weeks After Certification

A Sardis Police Department officer, identified in local reports as Amaris Howard, was arrested in March 2025 after allegations involving juveniles led to a multi-agency investigation in Panola County, Mississippi.

According to SuperTalk Mississippi, Howard was accused of misconduct involving juveniles and was charged with three counts of enticement of a minor. The report stated that Howard had been introduced as a certified officer with the Sardis Police Department in mid-March, shortly before his arrest.

Action News 5 reported that the Panola County Sheriff’s Office became aware of allegations involving Howard on March 5, 2025. After an investigation, Howard was arrested on March 24, 2025.

The investigation reportedly involved the Panola County Sheriff’s Office, the Sardis Police Department, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. WDAM reported that the Sardis Police Department confirmed Howard had, at one point, been an officer, but declined further comment beyond that.

Darkhorse Press also reported that Howard was arrested following allegations of misconduct toward juveniles and that the case remained under active investigation.

The case is another disturbing reminder of why law enforcement officers must be held to the same legal standards as everyone else, especially when the allegations involve vulnerable members of the public. Police officers are given authority, access, and public trust. When an officer is accused of exploiting that trust, the public has every right to demand transparency, accountability, and a full investigation.

As with all criminal cases, Howard is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
