Police Officer Arrested, Accused of Sexual Offenses

Officer(s) Involved: Manteca police officer Ryan Castro, 36.

Synopsis: The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office said Officer Ryan Castro was charged with oral copulation of an intoxicated person, digital penetration of an intoxicated person and assault with intent to commit a sexual offense.

The Manteca Police Department said the alleged offenses occurred in Ripon while Castro was off-duty. The department said it first learned of the investigation on 1 May 2024, and Castro was placed on paid administrative leave.

Manteca police said Castro has been employed as an officer for its department since June 2018. Prior to that, he worked for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. Now that criminal charges have been filed, Manteca police said it is proceeding with an “internal administrative process.”

The district attorney’s office said it is committed to ensuring that justice is served “through a fair and thorough judicial process.”

Outcome: Officer Castro has been arrested and is being held at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center. His arraignment was postponed to 1:30 p.m. on Friday in San Joaquin County Superior Court. At time of publication, Manteca police said it would not comment further on the investigation.
