Officer(s) Involved: Toms River Township Police Officer Rebecca Sayegh, 32.
Synopsis: On 25 April 2025, Berkeley Township police officers responded to an incident involving a “domestic disturbance” at about 11:20 PM.
“Responding Officers discovered that an individual, later identified as Sayegh–an off-duty Toms River Township police officer–had smashed the front glass door of the residence, entered the residence, and then assaulted and threatened two victims inside the residence,” according to the Ocean County prosecutor’s office.
“Sayegh was taken into custody at the scene–after having resisted efforts to peacefully place her under arrest,” the statement continued. Sayegh also damaged the hood of a vehicle belonging to one of the victims, which was parked in the driveway of the residence at the time.
“Sayegh was originally served with the charges via summons pending an upcoming first appearance in Ocean County Superior Court,” the prosecutor’s office added. “Due to the serious nature of the charges, however, Sayegh was re-charged by way of a warrant on 28 April 2025.”
Outcome: At time of publication, Sayegh was ordered to remain in custody pending a hearing on the bond motion. During Sayegh’s first appearance in court on 29 April 2025, before Brick Township Municipal Judge Joseph Grisanti, Grisanti reportedly informed Sayegh that prosecutors were seeking to have her held without bond until the case against her was resolved. The judge ultimately ordered Sayegh to remain in detention pending a hearing on the bond motion scheduled for 2 May 2025.
